The extreme weather in the last few weeks will have been welcomed by some and loathed by others but at least holiday season has arrived. Wherever you might be taking a break, whilst it’s good to relax the body and mind, staying vigilant against cyber attacks is a must. This month we look at what the hackers have been up to in the jobs market and provide a reminder of how to ensure the security of your mobile devices wherever they are in the world.
Hirer beware
The post-pandemic job market has seen many reassessing their career objectives whilst record job vacancies have resulted in lots of opportunities circulating electronically. Unfortunately, the hackers have been joining in as well with both outbound and inbound phishing attacks. Last year LinkedIn was used by hackers sending fake job offers to spread malware – see this SecurityIntelligence article. More recently, HR departments have been targeted with bogus resumes as The Hacker News reports. All this is a reminder of the need for caution, especially when you receive unsolicited emails or texts – including those from cloned email addresses or ones that, at a glance, appear genuine.
Device management
As holiday season gets fully underway, you and you team are likely to be spending more time out of the office than usual, meaning that mobile devices will be the primary access point for those still checking in. In our previous newsletters we have discussed the importance of software updates (patch management) as part of your defence against the hackers. With multiple devices, in disparate locations, this could be a challenge. However, with a mobile device management solution, as well as ensuring software updates have been done, you can track, block and wipe the devices as well as monitor performance.
