Autumn is here and many of you will be thinking about the return to your office or hybrid working. Our previous newsletters have covered a variety of topics from IT infrastructure, device management and, of course, cyber security. This month we take a look at good practice with auditing and management of your IT set up as well as further security updates – note that Apple recently issued an alert to update to their latest iOS version fixing prior weaknesses, so if you haven’t yet done this, do make it a priority.
IT that works
Technology is an incredible enabler allowing us to work in multiple locations, collaborate with our colleagues and deal effectively with our clients. Though the IT landscape never stands still, you might not need all the latest bells and whistles but you do need a fit-for-purpose device and applications that still receive security updates. Conducting regular audits gives you a clear picture of your equipment lifecycle and allows you to properly plan for the future to avoid last minute panic replacements. Combined with a device management strategy you can make sure your software is optimised and, as this Technology Press article highlights, make sure you aren’t using out-of-date applications.
Cyber security
Summer hasn’t deterred the hackers – a major NHS IT supplier was subject to a ransomware attack, impacting the 111 service (see this BBC article) and the Whatsapp scam supposedly from your offspring resurfaced (see this Metro piece), to name but two. Hopefully we now are all aware of bad actors out there and potential risks, however spending money to protect your business from something intangible can be difficult. That said, doing nothing really isn’t an option as the costs of an attack to your business could be catastrophic. We can help you assess what’s right for your business and tailor your cyber security protection accordingly.
