We hope you are all staying safe and well and looking forward to the Jubilee long weekend. The bunting is up and we’re hoping the weather plays ball so everyone can enjoy some much-needed downtime as local and global events remain challenging. This month we continue our focus on cyber security and the importance of electricals recycling to help preserve key resources.
First line of defence
Earlier this year, the NCSC published its Cyber Security Breaches Survey 2022 showing 39% of UK businesses identifying an attack. Of these, the most common (83%) was a phishing attempt whilst 21% identified something more sophisticated such as a denial of service, malware, or ransomware. In such an environment, whilst having the right technology in place is vital, it’s actually people and processes that need to be the first line of defence, especially with hybrid working. This Comptia article provides an excellent summary, underlining the importance of structure and training as well as technical solutions.
Electricals recycling
Platinum is topical due to the Queen’s jubilee year but perhaps also a good reminder of the precious metals that go into our electrical devices. These include gold, silver, copper, platinum and palladium and, as their collective name suggests, are scarce commodities. A recent Royal Society of Chemistry survey found that whilst many consumers would like to take a more sustainable approach to their devices, many struggle with how they might recycle their equipment to create a more circular economy. For everyday items there is always Hypnocat! For office equipment you might well need specialist help to ensure data security so why not get in touch?
