Summer seems to have finally arrived though holidays are still some distance away. This month we’re looking at how to make the most of your tech and providing some tips to maintain cyber awareness.
New tech, new habits?
Shiny new tech comes with promises of increased efficiency, happier employees and better ways to beat the competition. However, in practice, to properly reap these benefits you need to make sure your implementation is effective. Change management and training failures can result in your employees being unable to make the most of their new tools, resulting in reduced productivity, errors or client service failures which can be extremely demotivating. How can you avoid this?
- Provide comprehensive training – include not only the basic features but tailor it to specific roles and make sure you provide easily accessible ongoing support
- Focus on how the new system will benefit employees in their daily tasks and improve workflow efficiency – this is vital to a successful uptake
- Communicate why change is needed to your team and encourage open communication
Building cyber awareness
Our digital worlds are beset by constant cyber threats including phishing emails, malware, data breaches and ransomware. Any one of these can be devastating either at home or in the office. Whilst tech can help weed out suspicious activity, the first line of defence will always be your people. Some tips to building this awareness within your team include:
- Top-down strategy – if the leadership is following the protocol it’s easier for the team to do so as well
- Encourage reporting of potential issues and make it easy
- Undertake anti-phishing training to build confidence in spotting attacks
- Designate security champions – at all team levels – empowering your employees
- Cyber attacks happen outside the office as well so provide tips for better security at home
